about

Do As You Please proudly welcome Leeds heavyweight, Casika, to the roster; with his truly stand-out debut release, Awon Ilu. Translating from Nigerian to “The Drums”, Awon Ilu is a masterclass in assertive dancefloor aesthetic. This EP is a no-messing, heads down sensual assault, boldly making a worthy statement of arrival onto the label. Having only been producing for a year, this collection of work screams potential for a prosperous future in dance music.

The first of 4 sees the titled Awon Ilu, quickly defining Casika’s signature tribal drum programming in all its glory. A brilliantly unique take on afro inspired electronic dance workouts; delivered flawlessly over multiple twists and turns, all as equally as exciting as the last. Shifts in arrangement all quickly resolve in speaker shattering fashion as each drop introduces new layers of percussion and tribal vocal chants. Seminal work and quite simply an absolute f***ing belter.

Following on, Hac Club sees more of the same but this time with an anthemic audacity that you would be hard pressed to find from any talent as fresh. Casika’s delivery of this peak time acid slapper boasts twitchy lead lines and a devastating drum arrangement, reminiscent of our Detroit predecessors but with true 21st century finesse. Bespoke design for arenas and warehouse spaces alike.

Havana quite simply strips your face clean off and leaves you hung out to dry. A pummelling, industrial, overdriven enigma that you have to hear to believe. Undeniably clever in its arrangement, delivery and timbre; Casika’s just got guestlist to Nina Kraviz’ memory stick, as far as we’re concerned.

Closing proceedings, Tami Yami. A beautiful end to what we see as quite a remarkable story. Classic breakbeat encompassing a true ethereal soul, reminding you of life’s silver linings and gracious unearthly energies. You could listen to this track for hours and be blissfully unaware of anything apart from the journey you’re being benevolently indulged in. A true triumph. Casika, we salute you.
